We can freely say that 2018. was an “experimental year” for PokerStars. This time on the menu is the Pokerstars Fusion.  This is an innovative poker format that mixes elements of two of the most popular games around: Texas Hold’em and Omaha.

PokerStars Fusion

It is already available in the lobby under Cash Games. PokerStars Fusion sees you start with two hole cards – just like in Texas Hold’em – but as the hand continues you’ll receive moreIf you play through to the river you’ll have four hole cards and five community cards. Out of this, you make your best five-card hand. Just like in Omaha, you’ll need to use exactly two cards from your hand and three from the board.

The Rules of PokerStars Fusion

It is a Pot Limit, meaning the maximum bet at any time may not exceed the size of the pot. At the start of each hand, players are dealt two hole cards. Before the flop, the game plays identically to Texas Hold’em. Another similarity to Texas Hold’em is that board cards will come as a FLOP, TURN and RIVER. There is a betting round with every street.

When the flop is dealt, players still in the hand receive a third hole card. Remaining players on the turn then receive a fourth and final hole card. Players do not receive another hole card when the river is dealt.

At showdown, players must use exactly two of their hole cards and three community cards to make the best five-card poker hand (the software will automatically select the best hand you can make using the cards you hold at showdown).

To start playing PokerStars Fusion, all you need to do is choose the game and stake that you want to play. If no seat is immediately available, you’ll be on a waiting list.

There may be a minimum number of hands that you must play before you can sit out or leave. Time penalties are cumulative and should rarely impact most players.

If you would like to try out this new format, but you still don’t have a PokerStars account, register with YourPokerCash and get $600 welcome bonus!

This week PokerStars announces its plan for another innovation – Virtual Reality poker game. They call it PokerStars VRThe official launch will be later this year, for now, we have just some hints from Pokerstars. Check out if you’re gonna like it.

pokerstars vr

What is PokerStars VR?

The first thing to note is that it’s free to play. It’s also authentic (that means it looks great). It’s immersive, and it’s social. Once you put on the headset, you enter a visually stunning game environment. Nothing is real, and yet you can still handle chips and cards just as in the real world. And while opponents might be playing from the other side of the world, but you can study them for any tells they might have and even chat in real time.

What can you expect from this virtual world?

It’s the type of game you can immerse yourself in. Almost literally. We don’t just mean in the exotic virtual reality settings (think Macau 2050 or a Monte Carlo yacht) but with statistics. All the numbers, as well as observations about other players, are all available to you because it’s still all about the poker. And as you might expect in this level of the virtual world, it’s not all about behaving yourself. So yes, you can throw food at people, smoke a cigar, or even own a pet donkey if that’s your thing. Or you could be more civilized and share food, order drinks, even stream shows or sport.

When can you start playing?

Right now, the multiplayer no-limit hold’em game is in a “closed beta”. As you’d expect, a game like this needs intensive testing, which is why we recruited 100 hand-picked volunteers to put it through every scenario. As we speak they’re plugged in on platforms like Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Steam. What with the headsets, we can’t see the look in their eyes. But the smiles on their faces tell us what we need to know. Once their work is done the commercial launch will follow before the end of this year.

Looks like that online poker will get a whole new dimension with Pokerstars VR. We hope that this will increase the popularity of this game and that it will bring more players to the tables. If you don’t have a PokerStars account yet, sign up with us, grab 100% up to 600$ welcome bonus and be ready for the virtual reality.

Lex Veldhuis breaks his Twitch viewers record while playing the WCOOP Main Event. He finished 58th out of 2.044 players and won $28.632.

Lex Veldhuis

Lex Veldhuis – The Twitch Star

While playing that night, Veldhuis got the message from PokerStars about his new record. At that time he had 32,839 viewers. To remind, official record in Twitch viewers still holds Jason Somerville. He is the only streamer who had more than 37000 viewers at one time.  But, it looks like that Veldhuis has a potential to break it.

This is not the only online streaming record that Veldhuis recently broke. He reached 6000 subscribers on his Twitch. To celebrate that, he decided to play 25,000 WCOOP-62-H High Roller. “The $25K is going to be a very tough tournament for me,” said Veldhuis during his stream Monday night. “I have no illusions on being profitable in that tournament. We’re doing it as a stream celebration.”

While Doug Polk, another Twitch poker star, has announced retirement, looks like Lex Veldhuis is more motivated than ever to write history in this new poker branch.

After just 6 weeks of the test period, the world’s leading online poker site PokerStars removed their latest innovation – The Unfold Poker.

PokerStars removes UNFOLD poker

PokerStars’s Unfold Poker

To remind you, In Unfold Poker, players can retrieve their mucked cards and get back in the game. This was something that you couldn’t find anywhere before. It first appeared in Denmark on August the 1st, then later on .UK and .EU markets. However, it never reached the New Jersey market.

“PokerStars invests in creating and testing products and new variants of poker to suit a variety of player tastes. While not every new development will be a home run, we will keep trialing, listening to player feedback and analyzing engagement with our goal of continuing to offer fresh promotions, formats, and updates that enhance our players’ experience and bring more people to the game,” said Severin Rasset, Director of Poker Innovation and Operations.

This was the 3rd cash game innovation that the biggest poker site released and removed this year.

Frustrated after folding cards that would have flopped the nuts? Well, now you can still win a piece of the action with Unfold Hold’em by PokerStars!

UNFOLD HOLD'EM

Introducing Unfold Hold’em

Unfold means just that: if you folded your cards pre-flop, you can UNFOLD them after it. It’s like poker with the benefit of hindsight. Actually, it’s more than that. It’s a lot of fun. And here’s why.

It cuts out all the waiting around for another hand.

There’s no reason to wait for good cards because you can Unfold the bad ones. And with the option to Unfold, you get to stay in the hand for longer. That’s before you open up a whole new chapter on hold’em strategy.

The Rules of Unfold Hold’em

At the start of each hand, every player pays an Unfold ante. These antes form the Unfold pot.

The hand then plays out according to normal Texas Hold’em rules. However, all players who folded pre-flop are given the chance to ‘Unfold’ once the flop is dealt. To do so, they must pay the Unfold bet, which is the sum of the Unfold pot. The choice to pay this Unfold bet is made concurrently – all eligible players decide at the same time whether to play for the Unfold pot, and those who do are clearly identified once the decision period ends.

Players who pay the Unfold bet cannot make any further bets after this point. The rest of the hand is played out among the main pot players while the Unfold players spectate. The Unfold pot is awarded to the Unfold player with the strongest 5-card poker hand after the river is dealt.

If the main pot is won before the full board is dealt, all remaining community cards will be dealt to determine the winner of the Unfold pot.

Please note: a minimum of four players must be dealt into a hand for the Unfold ante to be collected.

Unfold Hold’em is played as a No Limit game.
